Lack of access to clean water disproportionately impacts women and girls. In many parts of the world, women spend hours each day collecting water from distant, often contaminated sources. This is time taken away from education, economic opportunities, and civic involvement. The physical toll of carrying heavy loads of water can also lead to health problems.
When our nonprofit helps install clean water points in villages, it reduces these gender disparities. With a local water source, women and girls get hours of time back in their day. They face less risk of assault from traveling long distances. Improved health from potable water also allows them to participate more fully in family and community life. Mothers are healthier to care for their children. Girls can attend school consistently. Women have more time to generate income through small businesses. Access to clean water promotes gender equality on multiple fronts.
Our programs don't just install infrastructure. We facilitate discussions on involving women equally in decision-making regarding water management. When provided opportunity and resources, women are powerful agents of change for the entire community. Ensuring women have a voice and choice lifts up everyone.
